BAAG recognised for its Environmental Sustainability

We are now a fully accredited Sustainable Gardening Australia nursery

We are very proud of this achievement! Below is a copy of the SGA press release.

Another garden centre in Melbourne has been successful in becoming SGA accredited for their green-tastic environmental credentials. Bulleen Art & Garden joins McGains Nursery in Anglesea and Healesville plants in gaining this, the gardening industry's environmental stamp of approval. These nurseries are running their businesses in a more environmentally sustainable way. They are also the place to go if you are interested in great gardening advice and products that can help you to reduce the amount of pesticides you spray, conserve water, avoid environmental weeds and attract wildlife to your garden.

Another 23 nurseries are signed on to become SGA accredited in 2005.

Environmental auditor, Linda Hinchcliffe said "Bulleen Art & Garden is extremely environmentally conscious and makes a significant effort to encourage customers to be aware of and utilise environmentally friendly products and practices."

This is not the first time Bulleen Art & Garden has been rewarded for its environmental focus. In 2003 they won the national Flora for Fauna award in the Garden Centre of the Year competition. Their award-winning display of wildlife attracting plants includes Australian national plants and local indigenous species.

All SGA accredited nurseries offer gardeners advice and products that consider the health of our environment. Pesticides and fertilisers are labelled according to the environmental damage they could cause, from low to medium and high. Plants that could escape from gardens and become local environmental weeds are signposted as problem plants, with the suggestion that you might want to choose something else. At Bulleen Art and Garden the nursery does not sell nineteen common garden plants that are a problem in nearby natural areas. A list of these pest plants, along with some alternatives that you could use, is on their website www.baag.com.au.

SGA accredited nurseries aim to provide environmental products and advice that reduce the impact the gardening has on the environment. At Bulleen Art & Garden you can see greywater and rainwater recycling systems in operation in a display that has only improved since it won the 2001 Savewater Award. Water conservation consultants are available at the nursery or to visit your house to help you with advice and products that would suit your needs to recycle rainwater or greywater onto the garden.

Staff at Bulleen Art & Garden have been trained to give good environmental advice to customers, whatever type of garden you are looking for.
