National Tree Planting Day
Sunday 29th July
The Friends of the Yarra Valley Parklands (with the assistance of BAAG and Parks Victoria) were out in force on Sunday with the help of over 120 enthusiastic volunteers from the local community and scout groups. On Sunday we were able to plant over 1,500 indigenous plants in a new wetland area created at the rear of BAAG next to Kim Close.
The plants will help to remove nutrients from stormwater runoff entering the Yarra and stabilise the soil on the surrounding embankment. The new wetland will also make an excellent home for a range of animals in the area including birds, frogs and lizards.
Thanks to everyone who got dirty and helped out on the day.
