Senecio rowleyanus

How to keep them thriving indoors in Melbourne!

Please Note: The information below is specific to this particular succulent. For more detailed notes on the general growing conditions required for all indoor succulents, check out our ‘ Succulents Indoors’ factsheet.

There is something so endearing about this cascading succulent. A waterfall of green pearls cascading for several feet from a hanging basket or a tall pot, what is not to love!

Water when the top half of the potting mix had dried out in warmer months. In cooler months keep fairly dry, watering only every 4 to 6 weeks. Perfect drainage is essential, never leave the pot standing in water.

Very bright indirect light. Can take direct winter sun, but direct sun through a window in the warmer months can result in scorch.

Temperature and Humidity
Likes normal indoors temperatures, but try to keep above 10C. Needs a cool period over winter. Moderate to dry humidity.

Apply slow release fertiliser at half strength in spring.

In warm months in the morning occasionally shower or mist heavily to remove any dust from the surface.
In spring or summer trim any over long strands and poke the cuttings back in the soil to keep the plant looking full.
Repot only when really congested, they look better when full in the pot. Follow instructions in our ‘ Succulents Indoors’ factsheet.
Your pot plant should be flushed annually. This process flushes away the salts that build up in the potting mix. To flush the pot, water several times in succession, soaking the pot each time until water runs out of the bottom.

Trouble free if not over watered and they get enough light!
